What is Microsoft Publisher

Microsoft Publisher is a software program that allows users to easily design layouts for magazines, newsletters and other publications. The latest version focuses on graphics and pictures in an effort to make those documents pop.

Publisher's goal is to be a tool for individuals with little to no graphic design experience to create publications that have an impact. The software provides a canvas where pictures, images and graphics can be moved around as needed through simple drag-and-drop features. Those images and shapes can also be manipulated by adding shadows and reflections that are supported in other Microsoft Office Suite applications. If the pictures a user would like to utilize are located online, those pictures can now be uploaded to Publisher, too, and used across Suite.

For personalization, Publisher does include the ever-so-popular mail merge function. Once a layout is created for a magazine, for example, the branding can then be carried over to emails, cards and stationary.

Sharing with Publisher is also easy. If more than one user will be contributing to a canvas, all changes made are saved to the cloud. Just share the project link with the team involved and grant access. When the completed project is ready to be printed, there's no need to hire a professional. Publisher can save the document in .jpg format, which allows for high quality and the ability to print right from your home or office printer.
